ALL IN A NIGHT'S WORK
A fellow once asked me, "What's so great about Mars,
Why spend the night freezing just to look at the stars?"
A great many answers swirled around in my brain,
As I thought of our lander on the rocky, red plain.
And pulsars that pulsate, and spirals that spin,
And planets that orbit the orbits within,
The Novae and Veils, and comets with tails,
Luminesce and fluoresce like meteor trails.
The Big Dipper points to the Northern-most star,
While the Milkyway sparkles with light from afar.
The Moon with it's phases, occultations and grazes,
Ellipses, eclipses, as the Amateur gazes.
There are too many reasons and so, with dispair,
I turned and I told him I look, " 'cause it's there! "
